Mumbai is a nightmare unfolding while people are overeating or trampling over one another to buy electronics they don’t really need at a discount that’s not real. The holiday “spirit” may catch up with me at some point, but it is not here yet. It probably doesn’t help that I spent most of Thanksgiving trying to write a funeral scene for the romantic-comedy-ghost story screenplay I’ve been trying to make progress on since the days when Hillary still thought she was going to be the Democratic nominee. Whatever the reason, I needed a little Christmas and stumbled upon a favorite bookmarked video.
Last year my friend Ron shared a video of a group of guys singing “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” It’s pretty terrific, but then I have a weakness for male a cappella groups. There is something about seeing men so completely organized for something other than sports and war that sets my girlheart atwitter.
Straight No Chaser was founded at Indiana University. They’re fancypants now with a snazzy website, a CD released by Atlantic, and an impressive performance schedule (they’ll be in New York next month), but this video of their performance of “The 12 Days of Christmas” is still my favorite. Since it’s been viewed more than eight million times, I think I’m not alone.
I suspect my Jewish friends will be especially amused at 1:22.
Enjoy.

I love that video. I’ve seen it before and it never fails to make me smile.
