This blog is the inevitable result of an unlikely friendship. When they first met in 1997, Tricia and Will were of different genders, different races, different generations, and Tricia was Will’s boss. In the many years since then, they have remained of different genders and races, but also become best friends. Oddly, while Tricia no longer considers herself older than Will, she does still consider herself his boss. She can’t help it. She’s a cross between Mary Richards and Angela Davis, and he needs a lot of bossing.
Their friendship is based on humor, mutual support, and their keen (almost compulsive) interest in, and analysis of, the world around them. Many a great conversation has been had on Tricia’s overstuffed red couch, fueled by many a great bottle of wine. Coming from very different backgrounds and living very different lives on very opposite coasts, these two friends view the world not only through their own eyes, but often through each other’s.
This blog, then, serves not only as another shining example of the proud narcissistic tradition of publishing one’s private rants for public enlightenment, but it also provides two friends separated by three time zones and joined by an abundance of opinions with another venue to meet, laugh, and discuss. It is not intended to be a “he said, she said” or “Crossfire” style Thunderdome of ideas (though it will no doubt end up that way), but rather a place to honestly engage with the events of our time. Who was it who said, “You don’t really know what you think until you write it down.” And, more importantly, why did he say that at all? Shouldn’t he have written it in a letter or something?
